Having left an allotment and moved some of my Ben Connan plants, I have some immature cuttings from these Blackcurrant bushes. Later in the year I could spare a couple which will have rooted. At the end of 2022 I could send these as dry rooted plants, when they are dormant.
You are able to have these, the berries can be as big as half an inch diameter! The American customs may prevent their import which would be a shame.
As for growing them : They like full sun and well draining land. We use Blood Fish and Bone fertiliser and rotted horse manure, all of which improve the soil.
Forget the hype about Blueberries which by comparison are tasteless.

I found some red and white currant plants sold as flowering decorative plants in garden centers. I didn’t plant them in the right soil and conditions but a few which I put in pots are still with me. I would love to find a place to plant them so they would grow and thrive.
Also I lived in England during the 70s and 80s and raising children there was very familiar with Ribena which based on black currants and sold as a syrup to mix with water as a soft drink or soda or also a syrup to put over ice cream or whatever. I would love to see currants grown throughout the USA but haven’t the knowledge or experience to do it. I am sure there is someone out there just waiting to learn and do it so that black currant either as cassis or ribena or or or.

Have you any idea how costly introduced pest have been in the United States. Try finding an American chestnut in our forest. Once the predominant tree east of the Mississippi now almost extinct. Why Introduced plant diseases.

Have missed them ever since living in the US.

Lately I can buy frozen red and black current in Jons’ market in LA.

Black currant is delicious. However I read it was banned in response to fears it would put pressure on the blueberry industry. They are delicious in yogurt.
